Maureen Martinez, a first generation Cuban American and a native of Palm Beach County, is a member of WLC’s appellate and insurance practice group. She handles appeals, insurance coverage disputes, and complex presuit matters. She graduated from Florida State University in 1994 and is a 1996 graduate of Nova Southeastern, Shepard Broad Law Center. Ms. Martinez is admitted in all state courts, as well as the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. Ms. Martinez has tried cases to verdict in both state and federal courts.

Earlier in her career, as an Assistant State Attorney for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, she tried more than 40 jury trials. She prosecuted violations of the law on behalf of the state of Florida ranging from DUI, battery, and domestic violence as well as felony matters ranging from aggravated battery, burglary, and second degree murder. Ms. Martinez was also one of a few assistant state attorneys selected to staff the domestic violence division when it was created.

Ms. Martinez also has experience litigating matters such as premises liability, medical malpractice, auto-negligence, wrongful death, aviation, trucking negligence, product liability, multi-district litigation, business disputes, sexual harassment, and construction defect claims from a plaintiff’s perspective. And, she was also a member of a national firm’s litigation department where she handled matters such as probate, business transactions, breach of contract and construction defect claims on behalf of business and insurance industry clients.

Ms. Martinez has lectured nationally on several topics to include collateral sources, spoliation of evidence, fraud on the court, objections and preserving privilege, and strategic discovery. Ms. Martinez is proud to have been the first female to serve on the Palm Beach County Justice Association Board, and has also served as a board member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association, The Belli Society, and The Florida Justice Association- Young Lawyers Section. Ms. Martinez also previously served as chair and co-chair of various events hosted by these organizations including Law Week and Hon. E. Earle Zehmer Memorial Mock Trial Competition.

Ms. Martinez is a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association, the Federalist Society, an Emeritus member of the Craig S. Barnard American Inns of Court LIV, a member of the Village of Wellington Planning, Zoning, & Adjustment Board, and the President of Binks Forest Elementary School PTA. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, especially boating with her husband and 10-year old son.
